The first restaurant ever made was the “White House Tavern” in Albany New York. It was opened in 1702 by Dutch settlers. The tavern was originally a simple house with a bar and a few tables.
over time it evolved into a full-fledged restaurant with a kitchen dining room and private rooms for guests.The White House Tavern was very popular with both locals and travelers. It was known for its good food and comfortable accommodations.
The tavern was also a popular gathering place for politicians and businessmen. In 1776 the tavern was the site of a meeting of the Albany Congress which was attended by representatives from all thirteen colonies.The White House Tavern continued to operate until 1790 when it was destroyed by a fire.
However its legacy lives on in the many restaurants that have since been established in Albany.
